Brian Floyd reported today in his blog that Coach Leach has hired four new offensive assistants.
1) Eric Morris will coach the receivers. He played for Leach at Texas Tech and in the Canadian Football League for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
2) Clay McGuire will coach the offensive line. He played for Leach and later coached with him at Texas Tech.
3) Dennis Simmons to coach the outside receivers who coached with Leach at Texas Tech.
4) Jim Mastro will coach the running backs. He was formerly with UCLA.

I think these are some pretty darn good hires, however what intrigued me most about Floyd’s blog post was that Jim Mastro runs the Pistol Offense.
This offense is a hybrid of the traditional shotgun and the quarterback lines up 4 yards behind the center instead of the 7 in the shotgun. Additionally the running back lines up behind the quarterback instead of next to him. This gives the QB a closer look at the defense, but still more time to carry out the play. It also opens up some interesting options. Bottom line I am betting there are some sweet changes to the strategy coming down the pipe and it’s going to be awesome to see what happens. It’s going to be Air Raids with Pistols in the new year Pirates!
What do you think about these new hires?
